I have to be envious of one of my friends and colleagues. He's going to Philadelphia for a two-month training for his new project. What is there to be envious when you are going away for work? Simply put, Philadelphia is one of the most picturesque and best places to be in the United States!
Philadelphia is known to be one of the major development centers of the US during the time of the first 13 colonial states. Philadelphia played a central role during America's early history, giving rise to momentous events like the American Revolution and signing of the US independence. It also used to be the most populous city during the early years of the US, although New York eventually overtook it. Because of the city's role in the early history of the country, it is only natural to have so many attractions worthy of a visit scattered all throughout the city. History buffs will have days and days of endless wandering around this city and visiting the national historical sites related to the foundation of the United States. Among them are Independence Hall (where the declaration of independence was signed), Liberty Bell, and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Philly, as the city is normally called by locals and tourists, is also the place where you can visit the homes of influential figures in US history like Edgar Allan Poe, Betsy Ross, and Thaddeus Kosciuszko. Museums are pretty abundant as well. It's not just all about history. Philadelphia also has a larger collection of public art (murals, statues, etc.) than any other city in the US. And the food! Oh yes, the food. Philly is most famous for the cheesestake, hoagie, and soft pretzels, which originated in the city. Not exactly the center of high-end food in the US, but there's something to be appreciated in Philadelphia during food tours. Once you're done touring the city--I doubt if you can do this in just a couple of days--you can always get a bus and ride to neighboring New York City, which has a lot to show on its own.
