Not much has been written about Barbados, although in reality when people speak of the Caribbean, they most likely think of this small island country, as it happens to be among the most popular countries in this region. Like most of the Caribbean, there are great beaches, among others, that you got to visit and enjoy every single day of the year, thanks to the tropical weather.
Unlike many other countries in the region, however, the cost of living here can be quite high. The popularity of Barbados as a tourist destination has given it a developed economy. In fact, it is considered to be the third most developed country in the western hemisphere, after the United States and Canada. Crime rate is low, but there is a fee that you have to pay for that. With an HDI of 0.903, there's really not much to be missed about the very good quality of life here. Numerous international hotel chains are located all over the country, with time-shares and smaller hotel accommodations usually available for the tourist or expat who wants to have a Caribbean vacation here. General infrastructure is excellent, while the political climate is considered to be very stable. The southern and eastern coasts are especially popular for their fine white-sand beaches and calm Caribbean waters. As for the nightlife, there are areas like Saint Lawrence Gap, one of the most well-known neighborhoods in Barbados, with over a kilometer-long stretch of bars, hotels, clubs, restaurants, resorts, and inns--all along the coasts' fine sandy beaches. For a lot of locals and foreigners alike, the neighborhood is simply known as The Gap. Go ahead and check it out. If you've got the time and the money to spend on a vacation, then by all means, consider Barbados among your top choices. If a Caribbean vacation is all you've wanted all along, then perhaps nothing cold be more synonymous with a Caribbean holiday than a trip to this very beautiful island destination.
